Terms of Service
Last updated: May 17, 2026
These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of the Opal Wallet mobile and web applications and related services (the "Service"), provided by Opal Wallet ("Opal Wallet," "we," "us," or "our").
By using the Service, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.
Eligibility
You must be at least 18 years old (or the age of majority where you live) to use the Service. You may not use the Service if doing so is prohibited in your location.
What Opal Wallet is — and is not
Opal Wallet provides software: a self-custodial wallet that lets you hold and transact your own crypto assets across multiple blockchains.
Opal Wallet is not a bank, a custodian, an exchange, a broker, or a money transmitter, and does not hold your funds.
- Your wallet's keys are generated and stored on your device. You alone control your wallet and your funds.
- We never take possession or control of your assets. We cannot move, freeze, reverse, or recover them.
- We provide the interface and software; you are responsible for your transactions and decisions.
Your wallet and passkeys
The Service uses passkeys— credentials stored in your device's secure hardware — instead of seed phrases or passwords. When you create a wallet, you will be asked to register more than one passkey so that you have a backup.
You are responsible for:
- maintaining access to your passkeys and the devices that hold them;
- registering a backup passkey or another recovery method when prompted;
- keeping your devices secure.
No recovery — please read this carefully
This is the most important thing to understand about the Service.
Your access to your wallet depends entirely on your passkeys.
This is a deliberate security design: because we have no way to access your wallet, no one can trick, pressure, or compel us into compromising it. The trade-off is that recovery is entirely your responsibility.
By using the Service you acknowledge and accept this.
Acceptable use
You agree not to use the Service to:
- break any applicable law or regulation;
- transact with sanctioned persons or in sanctioned jurisdictions, or otherwise violate sanctions or anti-money-laundering laws;
- defraud, harm, or deceive others;
- gain unauthorized access to the Service or interfere with its operation;
- infringe anyone's intellectual property or other rights.
AI agents and spending permissions
The Service lets you create access keys: scoped, limited spending permissions that you can give to an AI agent or a decentralized application.
When you create an access key, you define its limits — for example, how much can be spent per day, which recipients are allowed, and when the permission expires. Once granted, an agent or application can transact within those limits without asking you to approve each transaction. You can revoke an access key at any time.
You understand and agree that:
- you are responsible for the limits you set and for transactions made within those limits;
- an AI agent is operated by you or by a third party you have chosen — Opal Wallet does not operate it and is not responsible for its decisions or behavior;
- Opal Wallet's role is limited to honoring and enforcing the limits you set;
- you should set limits conservatively and revoke access you no longer need.
Think of an access key like handing someone a prepaid card with a spending cap: you decide the cap, and you are responsible for what happens within it.
Fees and transaction sponsorship
The Service may include paid subscription tiers. As part of certain tiers, Opal Wallet may sponsor blockchain network fees on your behalf, so that you can transact without separately holding the network's fee token. Where sponsorship does not apply or has been used up, network fees are paid from your own balance.
Third-party services
The Service lets you connect to third parties — decentralized applications, on-ramp providers, bridges, and the blockchains themselves. These are operated by others, not by Opal Wallet. We are not responsible for third-party services, their security, or their conduct. Your use of them is at your own risk and may be governed by their own terms.
Disclaimers
The Service is provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or secure.
Crypto assets are volatile and risky. You are solely responsible for your transactions and decisions.
Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, Opal Wallet will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for any loss arising from:
- your loss of, or loss of access to, your passkeys or devices;
- the behavior of any AI agent or application acting within limits you set;
- blockchain network failures, congestion, forks, or reorganizations;
- the conduct, security, or failure of any third-party service, application, or smart contract;
- changes in the value of crypto assets.
If the Service changes or ends
We may modify, suspend, or discontinue the Service. Because the Service is self-custodial, even if Opal Wallet discontinues the Service, your funds remain in your own wallet on the blockchain and are not dependent on us — you control the keys, and your assets remain yours.
Intellectual property
Opal Wallet and its name, logo, app, and content are owned by Opal Wallet and protected by intellectual-property law. These Terms do not grant you any right to use them except as needed to use the Service.
Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms. If we make material changes, we will notify you through the Service or by other reasonable means. Continued use after an update means you accept the updated Terms.
Governing law and disputes
Governing law, dispute-resolution method, and venue are determined by the laws of the jurisdiction in which Opal Wallet operates and will be updated here when the operating entity is finalized. Consumers in some jurisdictions have non-waivable local rights that these Terms cannot override.
